Autumn streams
Through my windowpane
Framing a massive succulent
Stacked peddles,
fanning out
Reflect the golden
hour
Shadows shift with
the sun
Sometimes catching
the light
This sprinkling of
shadows
A kaleidoscope
Of flickering feathers
Becomes a wing
A bird
A thrasher
It’s curved bill
Sinking into scarlet
fruit
Before disappearing
In the maze of pads
A prickly pear fort
My heart flutters
At this glimpse of Autumn
Like the first crisp
breeze
Of the fleeting season
